Study at our unique airside campus and experience the real world of work within one of the fastest growing industries in the country. The Aviation Academy is part of the The Centre for Travel and Tourism Studies at Craven College. Although the majority of other activities take place in the Skipton area, we were previously based on Wharfedale Walk at Leeds Bradford International Airport and were known as Craven Aviation Training (CAT). We have been offering aviation and business courses at LBIA for the past 7 years. The Aviation Academy is a newly built facility, opened in September 2005 and purpose designed to support the high quality training of aviation specialists to support the industry.
Developed in conjunction with Multiflight, supported by The Learning Skills Council & Yorkshire Forward, the Aviation Academy already holds interim Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status. The Centre of Vocational Excellence in Aviation: This is the first CoVE in Aviation in the UK and is in partnership with North Nottingham College and Doncaster College. The aim of the CoVE is to link with employers and aviation regulatory bodies to provide a full aviation curriculum to meet the requirements of the aviation industry. The Courses: We offer a full range of specialist courses which will prepare you for a variety of careers including air cabin crew, passenger service agents, air traffic control staff, pilots and, in Phase 2, aerospace engineers. Employer Liaison: We have been working with Leeds Bradford Airport for 8 years to equip our students with the skills required by aviation related employers. The close working relationships will form the basis of this new chapter in aviation training as we build a curriculum to match 21st century needs. The Building: The brand new premises have been built with funding from Yorkshire Forward to accommodate the growing demand for aviation related training. Phase 1 has 7 teaching rooms with interactive learning technology, a resource centre (with key text books, journals, topic boxes and 10 computers), an IT room, a tutorial room, and 2 student areas for eating and relaxing. Phase 2 will consist of workshops equipped to exacting specifications to deliver aerospace engineering courses at all levels to meet the international, regional and local needs for licenced aerospace engineers. |
